A cylinder secretary for a vintage rendering
The cylinder desk has a rather special form as furniture, a compromise between a space saving furniture and a flat desk. It is characterized by its many shelves and drawers in the background and a work plan in front. The office closes with a sliding quarter circle curtain. Like all Louis XVI style furniture, which differs from the Louis XV style by their appearance, the desk Louis XVI cylinder has a geometric shape typical of antiquity, a rectilinear structure. King Louis XVI had even recommended the cabinet maker Roetgen to create a very luxurious and very expensive office cylinder at the time. A writing tablet is retracted forward to leave a large writing space once the cylinder is open. The desk is lined with a golden border. The desk opens with six small drawers assembled by dovetails.
An office appreciated by kings of France
Richly decorated, office cylinder Louis XVI fully regained all the details used by craftsmen in the late 18th or early 19th century, while respecting the rules of the marquetry. In addition to the mahogany magnifying glass and rosewood marquetry on a beech wood frame, the desk is decorated with golden bronzes. Taking the manufacturing technique of the time, the frame is assembled with tenons and mortises to guarantee solidity and aesthetics.
