Louis Comfort Tiffany was a brilliant designer who created truly innovative products and he was particularly renowned for his innovative use of materials, especially when it came to the construction of his lamps. When he started designing his first Tiffany lamp, he was based on an idea that the lampshade looks like a stained glass window, and needs to be reinforced by adding lead glass on each side. This glass would create the exterior of the lamp's shadow, giving it color and depth. The Tiffany lamp was an immediate success and has been used for decades in the United States, making it one of the most popular and oldest pieces of Tiffany glass ever produced. The depression of the 1930s suddenly had a sudden halt in the manufacture of these Tiffany lamps and the financial crisis also significantly changed the price of authentic Tiffany glass.
Louis Comfort Tiffany has had great success with his new art nouveau style lamps and there is no doubt that this has helped him create some of the most valuable pieces ever released.
