Venus is the goddess of love, seduction, and feminine beauty in Roman mythology. She is assimilated to the Greek goddess Aphrodite.

In the original Greek it is interpreted that when Venus failed in her attempt at prophecy, the mortal world was cast into Tartaros where there was war, confusion and pestilence. When Venus returns, she is given the gift of leadership, and in later epics she is also sometimes clothed in symbols of the divine qualities of youth and beauty that she herself had displayed in her youth.
