Lighting fixtures designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany
In the last decades of the 19th century, a designer named Louis Comfort Tiffany redefined the aesthetic of ostentatious American interiors for wealthy New Yorkers. As a result, his namesake company, Tiffany Studios, created a range of decorative glass and enamels as well as pottery and mosaics.
About the designer
Louis Comfort Tiffany was born into a very privileged family in 1848 and became involved in art and design at an early age. He began studying art under George Inness as a teenager and was a member of the National Academy of Design by the time he was just 19.
He travelled extensively in Europe at this time and was greatly inspired by Islamic architecture, Romanesque and Moorish art. He was also interested in Japanese ceramics.
His fascination with light led to the development of a variety of electric lighting designs, beginning in 1898. These lamps adapted the technique he developed for creating stained glass windows to make artful table and hanging lamps, many of which were decorated with natural patterns and a coloured lead glass shade.
Additionally, he invented a unique glass technique that used copper foil with lead solders. This process created a level of detail that was otherwise impossible.
Our collection of Tiffany-style lighting products pays complete homage to the originals and often features handcrafted glass pieces, which provide a unique atmosphere with an electric bulb illuminated inside. From very traditional styles to more contemporary interpretations in deep tones with intricate patterns, our collection will add a splash of color and rich detail to your home decor.
