A piece of furniture that represents the art deco period
The Art Deco period is often likened to the Jazz Age or Art Nouveau. It was, at its most fundamental level, a movement that sought to redefine modern art as art designed by artists who were not bound by tradition or strict rules of form and function.
This movement began in New York and was led by artists such as Frank Stella, August Strindberg, and Willem de Kooning. The goal was to formalize and celebrate the "art deco decorative arts" and the growing public interest in art forms that were now considered "modern." The result was the formation of one of the most enduring art movements of all time: Art Deco.
Although the style was immensely popular in Europe and America, it was particularly popular in the United States. During the 1920s, the number of Art Deco residences, homes, and museums increased rapidly in the United States and Canada. This piece of furniture in its form and era is arguably the most iconic.
