A cylinder secretary for a vintage look
The cylinder desk has a rather unusual shape as a piece of furniture, a compromise between a space-saving piece of furniture and a flat desk. It is characterized by its numerous shelves and drawers in the background as well as a work surface in front.
Like all Louis XVI style furniture, which differs from the Louis XV style in its appearance, the Louis XVI cylinder desk has a geometric shape typical of antiquity, a rectilinear structure.
King Louis XVI even recommended the cabinetmaker Roetgen to create for him a very luxurious and very expensive cylinder desk at the time.
A desk appreciated by the kings of France
Richly decorated, the Louis XVI cylinder desk has completely taken up all the details used by craftsmen towards the end of the 18th or the beginning of the 19th century, while respecting the rules of artistic cabinetmaking.
In addition to the mahogany burl and rosewood marquetry on a beech wood frame, the desk is decorated with gilded bronzes.
