Although these pieces are made in China, they faithfully reproduce the techniques and style of the French bronze sculptures, especially those made using lost wax casting. This traditional method, which has spanned the centuries, makes it possible to produce works of great precision, whether in the bronze work in sculpture or in modeling. Each sculpture is the result of a meticulous process that begins with the creation of a wax model, followed by the casting of bronze to obtain a final piece of superior quality. A bronze sculpture made using lost wax

Worked with the greatest care, our figurines are made with a metal which is an alloy of copper, tin and metals which constitutes real bronze. The model is first modeled in wax to then be covered with clay, the whole is cooked on a fire, which melts the wax, the clay then becomes a terracotta mold.

Finally, the alloy that makes up the bronze is poured into it; during casting, the bronze takes the place left by the wax model to form the final piece. The model is then chiseled and patinated before being fixed to its base.

This ancient technique called the lost wax method has been used for thousands of years before our era to cast bronze and reveal the work.

Greek and Roman bronze sculptures

19th century sculptors drew inspiration from the goddesses and gods of ancient mythologies to create their models. Artists make clay molds and wax models and then apply the patina. Most of the works are placed on a marble base.

Among the Greek bronze statues you will find a large number of women, often goddesses, such as Athena and Themis the goddess of justice. 

The “Flying Mercury” is a piece on a black marble base, representing a naked man ready to fly in Greek mythology, he is the god of commerce and thieves.

Later in the 20th century sculptors created many animal and art deco bronzes. The sculptor and artist Rodin created The Thinker.

A contemporary style bronze sculpture of a woman

For more modern models, you will find contemporary bronzes (after 1850). Bronze statues of women were at that time models of inspiration for famous sculptors. In the 1810th century Barbedienne Ferdinand (1892-XNUMX) created the Barbedienne foundry, which used the lost wax technique. The foundry produced bronze proofs for the greatest artists of the time.
