A little history about the warriors of Xi'an and the Qin Emperor
First King of Qin (-247 to -221) before being the first emperor who unified China, Qin Shi Huang marked the history of this great country of the planet. He inherited one of the 7 kingdoms that divided China in -247. Emperor Qin is very recognized for his cruelty and despotism. He waged a fierce fight against intellectuals, the guardians of traditional values.
But he is also limited by his great wish for immortality. To this end, he has asked a magician to help him make an elixir of eternal life. These are the legendary "red pearls" of cinnabar (mercury sulfide). These are supposed to each give him six years of life, but they caused his death.
Located northeast of Xi'an, the Mausoleum of Emperor Qin covers an area of about 56 square kilometers, the largest guarded in China. It is covered by a 115-meter-high burial mound. Numerous pits contain thousands of life-size terracotta statues of soldiers and horses, burials and architectural remains, as well as bronze chariots and weapons. Emperor Qin did not want to be left alone after his death and ordered the design of earthen sculptures of his entire army in his tomb.
The Terracotta Army of Xi'an to Emperor Qin
In 1974, a Chinese farmer who dug a well in his field came across an underground cavern full of statues. He then called in archaeologists. An entire army of Emperor Qin Shi Huang in baked clay was unearthed. It includes 8 life-size polychrome sculptures, warriors in armor with different faces, horses and chariots. These Xi'an terra cotta soldiers ensured the protection of the mausoleum. These statues represent all the military posts that existed in China. This is a colossal and quite extraordinary work, carried out by 000 people over 700 years.
Since the discovery of the site by archaeologists in 1974, some of the statues have already been unearthed and are considered a wonder of the world.

A beautiful patina has been applied to give the sculptures an authentic touch. Wear marks have been intentionally reproduced to give them an antique appearance of the archaeological type.
The making of the reproductions of the Qin terracotta warriors began in 1989. The idea was born during the prospecting and drilling carried out on a vegetable field in Liucunbao county, Xi'an, by archaeologists from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. They unearthed 21 large kilns used 2 years ago to shape the terracotta warriors and horses of the Western Han Dynasty. These include the large state kilns, which specialize in making terracotta warriors and horses for the tombs of the emperors. Two of them have the capacity to fire 100 to 350 warriors and horses at a time.
The terracotta warrior and horse statues are all shaped in a mold and then painted before being put in the kiln for firing. Most of the pieces had to be covered with a white glaze beforehand. It is especially necessary to take a certain precaution when installing the raw warriors in the kiln. According to the principle of gravity, they must be turned upside down, with their heads down and their feet up. This process ensures the stability of the sculptures during firing and prevents them from falling.
