Warriors or Riace bronzes are two Greek bronze sculptures dated to the 5th century BC (around 460 for warrior A and around 430 for warrior B) and preserved in the National Museum of Reggio Calabria. Slightly larger than life (1.98 meters high for warrior A, 1.97 meters for warrior B), they were discovered in 1972 off Riace, Calabria, probably at the site of a shipwreck in antiquity.
They are among the very few Greek bronze statues large size still preserved in their entirety, with the aurige of Delphi, and the god of Artemision. Both warriors witness the evolution that takes place in bronze techniques from the end of life century BC? C.: they are made using the technique of wax cast on lost on negative, a technique that preserves the model and mold, and obtains a more regular thickness of bronze.
