Lightings designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany
During the last decades of the 19th century, a designer named Louis Comfort Tiffany redefined the aesthetic of ostentatious American interiors for wealthy New Yorkers. As a result, his company bearing his name, Tiffany Studios, created a range of decorative glass and enamels as well as pottery and mosaics.
About the designer
Louis Comfort Tiffany was born into a very privileged family in 1848 and became involved in art and design at an early age. He began studying art under George Inness as a teenager and was a member of the National Academy of Design when he was just 19.
He traveled extensively in Europe at that time and was very inspired by Islamic architecture, Romanesque and Moorish art. He was also interested in Japanese ceramics.
His fascination with light led to the development of a variety of electric lighting designs, beginning in 1898. These lamps adapted the technique he developed to create stained glass windows to make clever table and adhesion lamps, many of which were adorned with natural patterns and a tint of colored lead glass.
In addition, he invented a unique glass technique that used copper foil with lead solder. This process created a level of detail that was otherwise impossible.
Our collection of Tiffany-style lighting products pays full homage to the originals and often features handcrafted glass pieces, which provide a unique atmosphere with a lighted light bulb inside. From very traditional styles to more contemporary interpretations in deep tones with intricate patterns, our collection will add a touch of color and rich details to your interior design.
