The Tiffany Wisteria lamp

With a blind of several hundred pieces of glass were selected and cut to create the wisteria lamp designed by Clara Driscoll.

Clara Driscoll was the head of Tiffany's glass decoration department. The decoration and particular color of glass created the illusion of the vine wisteria in bloom. The top of the lampshade, which is made of glass and bronze, is pierced to allow light bulbs to pass through it.

The lamp, which was a luxury item at the time of its manufacture, was sold for $400, making it one of the most expensive lamps in Tiffany's production.

Of all the lamps created by Tiffany Studios, the Wisteria lamp is the most emblematic and famous example made at the turn of the last century.

The Tiffany Lotus or Pagoda lamp

The faceted structure of the stained glass window represents the foliage of the lotus, but the shape of a pagoda and the base suggests the stem and roots of the plant. That's why it's called either Lotus lamp or Pagoda. As in many of Tiffany's works, the selection of the lotus and its integration into its design evoke a Japanese aesthetic.

The lamp reached a record high of $116,500 at an auction. Tiffany Lotus lamp named pagoda can be seen at the museum The Met Museum New York.

To see this beautiful lamp at the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York, which was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Grant in 1974.

This lamp is also called Lotus Flower or Falling Lotus. Lily Pond is expected to be an early design. An indication of this is that the shade and base were designed in tandem The absence of marks and the presence of first production numbers rather than model numbers is another clue. The original sale price was $400.

Before that, the highest price of a Tiffany lamp sold at auction was $2.8 million at a Christie's auction in 1997.

Cheaper authentic Tiffany lamps

Even if some reach huge prices, it is possible to buy some classic models for 10 to 20,000 euros of old parts.

Lamps with harmoniously designed shades made of a mosaic of hundreds of individual pieces of glass are considered the ultimate examples and can be purchased between $100,000 and $150,000

Newer styles with floral patterns and vibrant colors are the most popular examples for today's buyers. The most popular designs can range from dreamy flowing floral designs like the Tiffany Daffodil lamp to oriental designs like the Tiffany Poppy lamp.

How do you know if you have a Tiffany lamp is old?

First of all, you should know that copies like the old ones are made of glass, so it is not through this material that you will be able to tell the difference.

The shape of a Tiffany blind is important. They must be shaped like a cone or a globe. A Tiffany lamp is normally sold with a brass or bronze base.

Tiffany lamp models are either art nouveau or art deco with botanical designs, such as water lilies, or feature dragonflies, butterflies, spiders and peacock feathers. Geometric patterns are also widely displayed on art deco models.

Due to the age of authentic Tiffany blinds, there will probably be some movement in the glass blind. So holding the tip up and hitting lightly on the glass can help indicate that you have a real Tiffany if there is a slight movement. Counterfeits do not tend to vibrate because the recent weld ings are more resistant.

The glass pieces of some of the original lamps are less garish than the fakeones. The color palette of the originals is more discreet.

The Tiffany Glass Neustadt collection contains an archive of all the glass used by Tiffany Studios, so it is also possible to identify counterfeits that would have been made with glass and not by Tiffany Studios.

The old fixtures have cotton or fabric threads, which differentiate set sails from old lamps. But then again it is possible to buy a lamp in a flea market to exchange electrical wires.

Tiffany lamp brands

An authentic Tiffany lamp should have a signature. On the first models, this will take the form of a thin sheet of brass stamped with the name Tiffany Studio.

Most authentic Tiffany shades are signed. The way they are stamped varies over time. Some shades have the full Tiffany name on the outer edge, while others indicate "Tiffany Studios," Tiffany and Co., or initials. Many shades have a pattern number, which can match the base if they are made together. The model number will appear on the stamp of the name. Many shades are marked by a bronze stamp. These markings, stamps or signatures of Tiffany lamps are quite easy to copy, these are easy to reproduce, so you will have to look for other signs.

Tiffany bronze bases often develop a patina as they age. However, better forgers can add a false patina, so authenticity cannot be guaranteed by this alone.

As you will have understood, it is better to make an expert who will know how to make an accurate estimate on the authenticity of your fixture because the differences are often thin and the reproductions are close to the old models.
